Temple of Demeter
The spectacular Temple of Demeter was constructed using white marble. It was built 100 years before the well-known Parthenon, in 530–520 BC. The temple’s hilltop location provides stunning sea views and mountains beyond. It was built as an homage to Persephone, Demeter, and Apollo. You will have the fantastic opportunity to see the Gyroula Archaeological Museum and the temple of Demeter. This museum has won awards for its outstanding architecture and is brimming with fascinating displays highlighting our rich cultural legacy.
Bazeos Tower
The magnificent Bazeos Tower in Sagri Village, a must-see sight in Naxos, is the next stop on our private tour. This tower, which was constructed in the 17th century, was positioned to shield its occupants from repeated pirate attacks.
The Pottery Workshop of Manolis Lybertas in Damalas Village
Our next destination is the Cycladic ceramics Workshop in Damalas Village, where you can see firsthand how clay is transformed into beautiful ceramics. Manolis Lybertas, a gifted potter from a family with a four-generation pottery-making legacy, lead the workshop. Manolis specializes in creating a range of pottery products, including the sfouni, a jug for pouring wine from large jars, and the tyromethira, a jar with holes for curing cheese. Copies of museum exhibits showcasing the long history of pottery are also widely available. This experience will give you a close-up look at the artistry and craftsmanship of Cycladic pottery-making.
Halki Village's Naxos Citrus Distillery
We continue our luxurious tour with a stop at the ancient Citrus Distillery in Halki Village. You can visit the manufacturing sections and see the historical still, which was created in 1862. You’ll learn how the distilling process transforms the fragrant citrus fruits into delectable beverages. Most importantly, citrus, which is known for its exceptional flavor and scent and is particularly enhanced in this region, will be available for you to sample.
Village of Filoti
Additionally, you will be brought to the Filoti settlement. This charming Cycladic hamlet is located in the slopes of Mount Zas. The scene is charming because of the village’s unique amphitheater design. While investigating, you’ll come to Gefyra, a little square made of cobblestones. This quaint neighborhood is surrounded by cozy “cafés” where you can have delicious mezedes and refreshing drinks like ouzo. There are also lots of shops offering local products and bars. The magnificent plane tree that provides shade for the square provides a refreshing breeze on hot days. On the left side of the square stands the lovely Panagia Filotitissa church, which is reached by a paved path.
